A Place of Rest and Meditation

Yesterday, on a trip to Omaha, I made a stop at the Holy Family Shrine outside of Gretna, Nebraska. This building is an architectural masterwork, and I highly recommend visiting, if you get the chance.

The architecture of the building was inspired by many things, but the most visually apparent influence was the tall, bent grass of the prairie. The sanctuary is almost completely silent inside, except for the sound of the trickling water that runs under your feet all the way from the visitor center (it actually doesn’t, but it’s built to look that way).

If you’re between Lincoln and Omaha, and have a few minutes to spare, drop by and look around. You won’t be disappointed!
