I just realized that I went the whole winter without posting this session from last year. Shooting senior guys can be a challenge sometimes. They tend to not like to smile or do anything goofy. Michael was a champ though, and I really enjoyed working with him throughout the day.
In my last post about traveling to Las Vegas for the WPPI conference, I mentioned going out into the desert for an impromptu shoot. Rather than letting those images get lots within all the other pictures from the four days, I decided to split them up into their own post.
These are some of my favorite images from the two hours we were out on the flats.

Amazing pictures, the light was very beautiful in the desert. I also love what looks like mist or a dust cloud?
A week ago I attended WPPI for the 2nd time. It’s basically a huge photography convention with classes, a trade show, and lots of parties. Last year was awesome, but the thing that made this year especially cool for me was getting to hang out with my interstate and international friends for much longer. We even rented a car, had some models come to town, and drove out into the desert for an impromptu shoot.
I love this pizza place at the MGM! Honestly, the pizza itself isn’t amazing or anything, but it’s still good food, and it’s cheap (comparatively speaking).

These two love to smile! I’m counting on lots of laughing, joking and more smiles on their wedding day. From the Haymarket to a gorgeous, sunny evening out in Pioneers Park, I had a great time with this session.

Every time I shoot my first engagement session of the year, I always feel like the pressure is on. I feel like I’ve gotten rusty every new year, no matter how long or short of a time it’s been since I shot last.
It was such a pleasure to shoot these two though. They were real troopers considering the cold wind, as well as the fairly rough nature hike I took them on to get to a few special spots I discovered on my “location scouting” missions I’ve started taking. There were so many times today, that I started saying, “Why don’t you…” and before I said anything, they were pretty much doing what I was going to direct them to do anyway. I felt like I was cheating to get shots this awesome.
